Civilization 7 Patch 1.0.1 Addresses Some of the Negative Feedback From Advanced Access

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 16,2025

Firaxis Games, the developer behind Civilization VII, has released patch 1.0.1, timed perfectly with the strategy game's full launch. Following a period of early access met with mixed Steam reviews, Firaxis is actively addressing player feedback. Many concerns center around the user interface, a perceived lack of map diversity, and the feeling that several key features are missing.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, acknowledged the negative press and player reviews. However, he expressed confidence that the game's core audience will appreciate Civilization VII more with continued play, describing its early performance as "very encouraging."

Now available to all players, not just early access participants, patch 1.0.1 (for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck) is the first of several planned updates designed to incorporate player feedback. The full patch notes are detailed below.

It's important to note that cross-play multiplayer has been temporarily disabled to streamline PC updates. This means PC patches may be released at a different pace than console updates. However, this change only affects cross-play between PC and console players; console-to-console and PC-to-PC multiplayer remain unaffected.

Civilization VII 1.0.1 Patch Notes (February 10, 2025) – PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck

Gameplay

  • Fixed an issue causing shorter-than-intended Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
  • City-States will now become Friendly Independent Powers during Age Transitions instead of vanishing. They will also begin with more units in the Exploration and Modern Ages.
  • Resolved inconsistencies in Naval Combat:
    • Naval Units will now use correct Combat Strength values when attacking other Naval Units.
    • Naval Units will receive proper reciprocal damage after attacking.
    • Naval Units will more reliably move to the attacked tile after defeating an enemy.
  • Completing the final Legacy Path milestone no longer grants Age Progress in the Modern Age, allowing more time for victory completion.
  • Towns will automatically resume growing if their chosen Focus becomes ineligible (e.g., population decrease).
  • The Future Civic is now repeatable in all Ages. The cost of Future Tech and Future Civic will increase more with each repetition.
  • Fixed an issue where excessive Growth bonuses resulted in negative Food needed for the next growth event.
  • Improved Rail Networks, enhancing the reliability of Settlements connecting to the network via Ports. This applies if the Capital has a Port or is rail-connected to a Settlement with a Port.
  • Improved the Antiquity Age Loyalty Crisis, including the ability to purchase Villas during the crisis to manage settlement happiness.

A note about cross-play multiplayer: To expedite PC updates, patches may be released at a different pace than on consoles. Cross-play between PC and console players is temporarily disabled. Console-to-console and PC-to-PC multiplayer remain unaffected.

AI

  • AI will offer high-value Cities less frequently during Peace Deals.
  • In the Modern Age, AI will declare war less often at the start and will consider Ideology more before declaring war or offering peace.
  • Other Leaders will have a reduced desire for war if neither party has an Ideology and an increased desire for war with players of opposing Ideologies. Conversely, their desire for peace with players of opposing Ideologies will decrease.

Camera

  • Fixed an issue on native resolutions where the camera would focus on the map's lower end when clicking the minimap.

UI

  • Replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font (temporary, pending future improvements).
  • Fixed an issue preventing the Settlement menu from opening when clicking a non-player's Settlement Banner.
  • Fixed an issue where yield icons didn't appear on buildings after town-to-city conversion.
  • Fixed an issue with cut-off text on the Global Yields Breakdown screen.
  • Added notifications for completed Espionage actions.

  • Your current religion is now displayed first in the belief picker tabs.

  • Improved the alignment of leader names and portraits on the Age Summary (Victories Rankings Overview screen).
  • Fixed an issue where the background color remained default despite user changes in the Player Customize tab.
  • Improved spacing between Civ descriptions, unique units, and building icons on the loading screen.
