Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has reaffirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is slated for a fall 2025 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. This announcement came during the company's third quarter financial results report for the period ending December 31, 2024, indicating that the much-anticipated game remains on schedule without any delays.
In an interview with IGN before the financial report's release, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed confidence in meeting the fall 2025 deadline, though he acknowledged the inherent risks in game development. "Look, there's always a risk of slippage and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things," Zelnick stated. "So we feel really good about it [fall 2025]."
When pressed for updates on the development progress of GTA 6, Zelnick remained cautious, highlighting the high expectations both internally and externally. "We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs. I'm fond of saying arrogance is the enemy of continued success, so we're all running scared and looking over our shoulders and we know that the competition is not asleep. Our whole organization is super excited," he shared.
The release date of GTA 6 continues to be a focal point in the entertainment industry, with competitors like EA monitoring closely. EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently indicated a willingness to adjust the release schedule of the next Battlefield game based on the timing of GTA 6's launch.

While the release window for GTA 6 remains unchanged, fans are still eagerly awaiting the second trailer, which has yet to be released over a year after the first. This delay has fueled extensive speculation among the community. For those looking for more GTA 6 content, IGN offers insights from an ex-Rockstar developer suggesting that a final decision on any potential delay might not come until May 2025, as well as discussions on whether GTA 6 will be available on PC and if the PS5 Pro will support 60 frames per second.
Take-Two also highlighted the continued success of other Rockstar titles. Grand Theft Auto 5 has now sold 210 million units worldwide, while GTA Online experienced a strong quarter with the "Agents of Sabotage" update and a 10% year-over-year increase in GTA+ memberships. Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed 70 million units sold, with the game seeing record concurrent players on Steam.
Take-Two has a packed schedule for 2025, with recent releases like Civilization 7 from Firaxis, and upcoming titles such as PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K25 in March, Mafia: The Old Country in the summer, GTA 6 in the fall, and Borderlands 4 from Gearbox before the year's end. The company expressed optimism about the commercial potential of these titles, stating, "We are exceedingly optimistic about the commercial potential of our titles and believe that they will have a transformative effect on our business – and our industry – over the long term." They also remain "highly confident" in achieving record levels of Net Bookings in fiscal 2026 and 2027.
