Capcom Tames Monster Hunter Wilds PC Requirements

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 14,2025

As the release date of February 28 for Monster Hunter Wilds approaches, developer Capcom has announced efforts to lower the recommended GPU requirements, aiming to enhance accessibility for a broader range of PC players. This update was confirmed by the official German Monster Hunter X/Twitter account, which also mentioned that Capcom is considering the release of a standalone PC benchmarking tool to help players assess their system's readiness for the game.

Currently, Capcom recommends an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT to achieve 30 FPS at 1080p. These minimum requirements also stipulate an internal resolution of 720p, with graphics upscaled using DLSS or FSR on the "lowest" settings. For those targeting 60 FPS at 1080p, Capcom suggests using an RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or AMD RX 6700 XT, with upscaling and Frame Generation technologies enabled. Notably, only the RTX 4060 supports Nvidia Frame Generation, while the RTX 2070 Super and RX 6700 XT rely on FSR 3, which faced issues with ghosting artifacts during the previous beta.

Digital Foundry has advised that for third-person games, a baseline of 40 FPS is preferable when using Frame Generation technology. Running below 60 FPS with upscaling can lead to increased latency, potentially affecting the game's responsiveness and feel.

During the open beta test, players with lower-end hardware, including those with mid-range cards like the RTX 3060, encountered difficulties. A notable issue was a low-LOD bug that prevented the full loading of detailed textures for characters and monsters.

Monster Hunter Wilds utilizes the RE Engine, which has powered successful titles like Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter Rise, and Street Fighter 6, delivering smooth performance across various platforms. However, the engine's performance in larger, open-world games with numerous NPCs and enemies, such as Dragon’s Dogma 2, has raised concerns about potential performance issues in Monster Hunter Wilds.

With an early February open beta and a late February launch on the horizon, Capcom's initiative to adjust GPU requirements could play a critical role in ensuring the game's success on the PC platform.
