"Path of Exile 2 Devs Rush to Fix Game Amid Negative Steam Reviews"

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 14,2025

Grinding Gear Games (GGG), the developers behind Path of Exile 2, have introduced further emergency adjustments in response to the widespread criticism of the Dawn of the Hunt update. The update, which launched earlier this month, has drawn significant ire from the game's community, leading to a decline in Steam user reviews to 'mostly negative.'

The Dawn of the Hunt expansion introduced the new Huntress class, adept in hybrid melee and ranged combat with a Spear and Buckler, along with five new ascension classes: the Ritualist, Amazon, Smith of Kitava, Tactician, and Lich. It also brought over one hundred new unique items and significantly expanded crafting options. Despite these additions, the update has been met with backlash due to changes that have slowed down the game's pace, which many players feel has turned the game into a "total slog."

The 'most helpful' review on Steam over the last 30 days captures the community's frustration, highlighting issues such as excessively long boss fights, minimal skill damage, and overall game instability. Other reviews echoed these sentiments, criticizing the game for feeling punishing with little reward, overly large areas, and forced combo gameplay that restricts player freedom.

In response, GGG has rolled out a series of changes in the upcoming 0.2.0e update, scheduled for release on April 11. These changes aim to address the community's concerns and improve gameplay dynamics.

Path of Exile 2 Update 0.2.0e Patch Notes:

Monster Speed Changes

GGG has tackled the issue of players being overwhelmed by fast monsters with targeted adjustments across different acts. Key changes include removing interrupt events for certain monsters, reducing the speed of Haste Aura monsters, and adjusting the behavior of various creatures to give players more breathing room during combat.

Act 1

Adjustments here include slowing down Werewolf and Tendril Prowlers after melee actions, reducing the health and damage of Hungering Stalkers, and decreasing the number of Bloom Serpents and Venomous Crabs. Additionally, changes to Cultists and Blood Cretins aim to make encounters less frustrating.

Act 2

In Titan Valley, Boulder Ants have been replaced with Risen Maraketh to reduce irritating monster movements, and Faridun have been modified to remove interrupt events during their attacks.

Act 3

Modifications to Diretusk Boar and Antlion Charger behaviors, adjustments to monster compositions in the Lost City and Azak Bog, and fixes to the Slitherspitter's damage type aim to enhance player experience. GGG also plans to address inconsistent monster density in future updates.

Boss Changes

Boss encounters have been tweaked to reduce frustration, with specific changes to Viper Napuatzi, Uxmal, and Xyclucian aimed at improving fight mechanics and visibility.

Player Minion Changes

Minion revive timers have been adjusted to mitigate the issue of multiple minions dying and resetting the timer. Additionally, changes to Bind Spectre and Tame Beast gems allow for better minion management.

Other Player Balance

Minor balance changes include expanding the use of Rally support and fixing bugs related to the Ritualist ascendancy, enhancing overall player experience.

Crafting Changes

New mods have been added to runes for caster weapons, and Renly's shop now offers a Blank rune that can be forged into any elemental rune, providing more crafting flexibility.

Performance Improvements

Optimizations to ground foliage aim to improve game performance across various areas.

0.2.0E Deployment Timeline

The 0.2.0e patch will be deployed around 10AM NZT, with further changes planned for post-weekend deployment.

Charm Changes

GGG is revamping the charm system, making charm slots on belts dependent on the belt's level and allowing for more charm use. Charm effectiveness has also been enhanced.

Stash Tab Affinities

New affinities for stash tabs have been added to categorize items like Socketables, Fragments, Breach, Expedition, and Ritual items, with Charms now able to be stored in Flask stash tabs.

Atlas Bookmarks

Players can now bookmark locations on their atlas for easy navigation, with up to 16 bookmarks available at a time.

These changes are part of GGG's ongoing effort to address player feedback and improve the gameplay experience in Path of Exile 2. The question remains whether these updates will be sufficient to restore the community's confidence and improve the game's reception on Steam.
