Nintendo: Donkey Kong Fun Prioritized Over Performance

The director of the upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza has addressed certain performance concerns, stating the team focused on "fun and playability" throughout development.

Speaking to La Vanguardia, director Kazuya Takahashi commented on performance issues observed by a journalist during a preview session.

"Several factors are at play," Takahashi replied when questioned about the concerns. "Firstly, we deliberately employed effects like hit-stop and slow motion to accentuate impacts. Secondly, our use of voxel technology means there can be significant environmental transformations and destruction.

"We recognize that performance might dip slightly during these moments," Takahashi continued. "However, as noted, the game generally runs smoothly, and for major set-piece events, we chose to prioritize enjoyment and playability."

"Bananza is shaping up to be among the most visually stunning Nintendo titles I've experienced," we noted in IGN's Donkey Kong Bananza preview. "It genuinely leverages the Switch 2's capabilities—the environments are breathtaking, DK's animations are richly expressive, and I came away feeling the next era of first-party Nintendo games has truly begun."

Donkey Kong Bananza launches this week on July 17, priced at $69.99 and exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. To avoid spoilers, consider muting related terms on social media, as details are circulating online following early copies reaching some fans.
