Developers of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Reveal Details About the Swarm Faction

Unfrozen Studio, the developers behind Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, have unveiled further details about the intriguing Swarm faction, following an initial teaser. They've detailed the faction's origins, the evolution of its concept from "Inferno" to "Swarm," and its role within the Jadame continent's narrative.

The Swarm's defining characteristic is its adaptability. Certain creatures possess abilities directly influenced by enemy unit levels; the greater the disparity, the more potent the damage. Others, like mantises, boast a unique three-ability rotation per round. Furthermore, units such as worms and locusts can consume corpses for healing and enhancement—a skill also learnable by player heroes.

In Olden Era, this insectoid race, previously only briefly mentioned in Might & Magic 8, assumes the role of the demonic threat. While respecting established lore, the developers have infused the Swarm with elements of body horror and occultism, transforming them from a simple insect colony into a cult devoted to a single, powerful entity. Each member is part of a vast hive mind, existing solely to serve its master's will.

Gameplay revolves around a "mono-faction" mechanic; using only Swarm units maximizes their synergistic bonuses. Swarm troops can summon cocoons, whose health scales with army size. Upon hatching, these larvae provide temporary units, offering dynamic battlefield adaptation.

The Swarm's aggressive playstyle is highlighted by its corpse-devouring healing and empowerment, coupled with abilities that shift based on enemy strength. This fosters a direct confrontation strategy, presenting players with a novel combat experience.
