Capcom is diligently enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance ahead of its launch, with a focus on optimizing the game to potentially reduce the PC's GPU requirements. Dive in to discover more about Capcom's strategic plans for this eagerly awaited game.
Capcom's efforts to boost Monster Hunter Wilds' performance were announced on the game's German Twitter (X) account on January 19, 2025. A video shared by Monster Hunter Germany highlighted smoother gameplay, featuring a hunter engaging with Quematrice, a rooster-like brute wyvern. This footage introduced an updated Prioritize Framerate mode for the PS5, which enhances fps by trading off some graphical details.
The same post confirmed that similar enhancements are being applied to the PC version, with a specific focus on reducing the GPU requirements. "Performance will be improved in a similar way, and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements," the post stated.
Currently, the game's minimum GPU requirements stand at NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Should Capcom succeed in lowering these requirements, Monster Hunter Wilds could become accessible to players with lower or mid-tier GPUs, broadening its appeal to a wider audience.
Additionally, Capcom plans to launch a free benchmarking tool, enabling players to find the optimal settings or assess their PC's capability to run the game. This move could alleviate concerns about PC upgrades if Capcom effectively reduces the GPU requirements for MH Wilds. During the first beta test of MH Wilds held in October and November 2024, players encountered significant performance issues. Steam users reported low-poly NPCs and monsters, drawing unfavorable comparisons to PS1 graphics. Beyond the visual shortcomings, players noted fps drops and other performance hiccups, which were disappointing given the high-end PCs used by some testers. Although performance could be enhanced, it often came at the expense of graphical quality, further diminishing the game's visuals.
Despite the initial beta's challenges, Capcom responded on November 1, 2024, promising fixes for issues such as afterimage noise in specific environments when Frame Generation is enabled. They assured that the full game would be in a significantly improved state compared to the beta.
Players will soon have the opportunity to experience these improvements during the upcoming Open Beta Test 2, scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. This test will feature the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and an undisclosed monster. However, it remains uncertain whether the recent performance updates will be included in this final beta test.
