Take-Two Exec Optimistic About Civ 7's Future

Civilization 7's launch has garnered mixed Steam reviews, but Take-Two's CEO remains optimistic. While hardcore fans, who gained early access, have voiced concerns regarding the user interface (UI), limited map variety, and missing features, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick believes their opinions will shift positively with increased playtime.

The game currently boasts a Metacritic score of 81 and numerous reviews exceeding 90. However, Zelnick acknowledges negative critiques, including a harsh Eurogamer review. He attributes the initial negative feedback to the significant changes implemented by Firaxis, particularly the innovative three-age campaign structure with simultaneous Age Transitions. This new system, unprecedented in previous Civilization games, involves selecting a new civilization, choosing retained Legacies, and witnessing world evolution at each transition. Zelnick is confident that players will eventually appreciate this innovative approach.

Firaxis is actively addressing player feedback, promising UI improvements, the addition of multiplayer teams for cooperative play, and expanded map variety. Zelnick emphasizes that the early access release isn't flawless but considers its performance "very encouraging."

The Steam user review rating is vital for Civilization 7's success on the platform. Its impact extends beyond public perception, influencing the game's visibility on Steam. Therefore, Firaxis' immediate focus is on improving player sentiment and addressing the concerns highlighted in the negative reviews.
