S-GAME Addresses "Nobody Needs Xbox" Controversy Surrounding Phantom Blade Zero

S-GAME, the studio behind the anticipated titles Phantom Blade Zero and Black Myth: Wukong, has issued a statement clarifying recent reports regarding an alleged comment dismissing the Xbox platform. The controversy stemmed from a statement attributed to an anonymous Phantom Blade Zero developer at ChinaJoy 2024, initially reported by several media outlets.

The initial reports, fueled by varying translations, ranged from suggesting low Xbox interest in Asia to a more inflammatory claim that the platform is unnecessary. One outlet, Gameplay Cassi, translated a report from Aroged as stating "nobody needs this platform," while the original Chinese source reportedly conveyed a sentiment closer to "no one shows any interest in Xbox."

S-GAME's official Twitter(X) response refuted the notion that the reported statement reflects their company values. The statement emphasized their commitment to broad accessibility, explicitly stating they haven't ruled out any platform for Phantom Blade Zero. They are dedicated to ensuring the widest possible player reach at launch and beyond.

While not directly addressing the anonymous source's authenticity, S-GAME's statement acknowledges the reality of Xbox's comparatively lower market share in Asia compared to PlayStation and Nintendo. This disparity, combined with challenges in Xbox's retail distribution in certain Asian regions, provides some context to the initial reports.

Speculation about an exclusive deal with Sony, fueled by prior statements about Sony's development and marketing support, has also been addressed. S-GAME has denied any exclusive partnership, reiterating their plans for a PC release alongside the PlayStation 5 version.

Although an Xbox release remains unconfirmed, S-GAME's response leaves the possibility open, suggesting the controversy may have been based on misinterpretations and exaggerations of the original statement.
