The Dynasty Warriors series, known for its hack-and-slash combat, still demands a certain level of skill from its players. Recognizing this, Dynasty Warriors: Origins introduces four difficulty settings, allowing players to customize their gaming experience according to their skill level and desired challenge. As a reboot, the game caters to both new and returning players, who might be curious about the optimal difficulty setting to choose.
In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, players can select from four difficulty settings, though initially, only three are accessible. At the start, you can choose between Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). The Ultimate Warrior (very hard) setting unlocks after completing one of the three factions' main scenarios.
While there's a Trophy/Achievement for completing a single battle on Ultimate Warrior, there are no difficulty-specific rewards for finishing the main campaign.
For newcomers to the action-adventure genre or those primarily interested in the storyline, Historian is the ideal choice. Wayfarer strikes a balance and is suitable for most players, even those with limited experience in Musou/Warriors games. Dedicated fans of the series might opt for Hero from the outset, while seasoned Musou players might consider stepping up to Ultimate Warrior once it's unlocked, to maintain a challenging experience as they tackle remaining missions, requests, and scenarios.
Players can adjust the difficulty between battles via the config menu if they find the game too hard or too easy, without impacting the story.
On Historian, all enemy attacks are blockable, and it's easier to stagger enemies, gain bravery, and fill the Musou Gauge. In contrast, Hero increases enemy strength and aggression, shortens the window for parries and perfect evades, and removes Meat Buns from enemy drops. Blocking depletes bravery, there's less time to influence battles between allied and enemy forces, and the earnings of Skill Points and gold are slightly reduced. Ultimate Warrior amplifies these challenges, with even tighter parry and evade windows and significantly reduced battle earnings.
