Capcom Games Competition Opens Up RE ENGINE for Student Focused Challenge

Capcom has officially launched the Capcom Games Competition, a pioneering game development contest designed exclusively for students in Japan. Utilizing Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE, the competition seeks to invigorate the video game sector by fostering research and development at educational institutions. Through this collaboration between industry and academia, Capcom aims to not only enhance the industry but also to nurture future game development talent.

Participants will form teams of up to 20 members, each assigned specific roles mirroring real-world game development positions. Over six months, these teams will collaborate to create a game, guided by professional Capcom developers. This hands-on experience will allow students to immerse themselves in state-of-the-art game development techniques. Additionally, Capcom offers the winning teams the chance to receive game production support, including the possibility of commercialization.

Capcom Games Competition Opens Up RE ENGINE for Student Focused Challenge

The application window for the competition opens on December 9, 2024, and closes on January 17, 2025, unless otherwise noted. Eligible participants must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in a university, graduate school, or vocational school in Japan.

RE ENGINE, or Reach for the Moon Engine, is Capcom's proprietary game development engine, initially developed in 2014 for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Since its inception, it has powered several acclaimed Capcom titles, including recent Resident Evil games, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. The engine continues to evolve, ensuring the creation of increasingly sophisticated and high-quality games.
