Atomfall Hits Profit Early, Sequel Teased

Author:Kristen Update:Oct 16,2025

Rebellion, developer of the British survival game Atomfall, has confirmed the title achieved profitability immediately after launch - despite being accessible to 2 million players via Xbox Game Pass who didn't purchase the game outright.

While exact sales figures remain undisclosed for the March 27, 2025 release (available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S), Rebellion reports this marks their most successful launch ever in terms of player engagement - boosted significantly by Game Pass availability.

Immediate Profitability Confirmed

Speaking to The Game Business, Rebellion confirmed their post-apocalyptic England simulator recouped development costs upon release, with the studio now planning potential sequels and DLC content while maintaining live service support.

Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley previously told GamesIndustry.biz that launching on Game Pass actually complemented sales rather than cannibalizing them, noting Microsoft's guaranteed revenue mitigates financial risk while exposing the game to wider audiences.

Game Pass: A Launchpad for Sales

"Game Pass creates a virtuous cycle," Kingsley explained. "Players discover the game, share positive experiences online, and this drives both subscriptions among Game Pass users and direct purchases from non-subscribers wanting to join the conversation."

While Microsoft keeps financial details confidential, Atomfall's success appears mutually beneficial - attracting subscribers to Game Pass while generating revenue for Rebellion beyond traditional sales channels.
