GTA Online to Remain Active Amid GTA 6 Demand

Author:Kristen Update:May 05,2025

If you're a fan of *Grand Theft Auto Online*, you might be wondering about its future, especially with *GTA 6* on the horizon. The good news is that Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has expressed a willingness to keep supporting legacy titles like *GTA Online* as long as there's player demand. In an IGN interview on February 14, 2025, Strauss Zelnick, the boss of Take-Two, shed some light on this topic without committing to specifics about any particular project.

Take-Two Will Support GTA Online if There's Demand

Zelnick provided an insightful analogy by referencing NBA 2K Online, which was launched in China in 2012 and followed by a sequel in 2017. Despite the new release, they continued to support the original game because of its substantial player base. Zelnick stated, "So we've shown a willingness to support legacy titles when a community wants to be engaged with them." This suggests that *GTA Online* could continue to thrive even after *GTA 6* hits the market, given its impressive longevity and financial success over the past decade.

Rockstar Games May Create a Platform like Roblox and Fortnite for GTA 6

Adding to the excitement, reports from Digiday on February 17, 2025, indicate that Rockstar Games is planning to integrate user-generated content (UGC) into the online version of *GTA 6*. This move would make the game similar to platforms like Roblox and Fortnite, where players can customize and create their own experiences within the game. According to Digiday, "Rockstar Games has been in discussions with top Roblox and Fortnite creators, as well as dedicated GTA content creators, about the potential to create custom experiences inside the upcoming game."

This strategy not only broadens the appeal of *GTA 6* by involving content creators and modders but also opens up new revenue streams for Rockstar and Take-Two through virtual item sales and revenue-sharing programs. While Rockstar has not yet responded to Digiday's inquiries, the potential for such a platform is clear. With *GTA 5* and its online component still ranking as the third most-watched game on Twitch, the inclusion of UGC in *GTA 6* could significantly amplify its presence across various gaming platforms.
