Funcom's Prepared Server Infrastructure

Dune Awakening Developer Details Server Scaling Plans

As Dune: Awakening approaches its June release, developer Funcom confirms readiness for potentially overwhelming launch demand. A Steam post on May 7 addressed critical post-beta questions regarding server stability and multiplayer mechanics.

Players will initially select a home server within networked Worlds - each consisting of at least 20 interconnected servers enabling player interactions across shared environments.

Addressing concerns about server capacity and queue times, Funcom acknowledged potential launch congestion but emphasized their scaled infrastructure: "We'll have thousands of servers grouped into hundreds of Worlds available at launch."

"While individual Hagga Basin servers support 40 concurrent players, daily population fluctuations enable accommodation for several hundred residents per server," clarified Funcom. "Our closed beta rigorously tested systems that automatically regulate character creation on highly populated servers to prevent overcrowding."

While emphasizing large-scale multiplayer mechanics, Dune: Awakening accommodates solo exploration of Arrakis. Private servers won't be available at launch but will arrive through post-release updates.
