Possible Revival of Scalebound Development?

Scalebound, once a highly anticipated Xbox One exclusive, embodied ambitious action-RPG design, blending dynamic combat, evocative music, and a groundbreaking dragon companion system. However, this promising project, announced in 2014, ultimately fell victim to cancellation in 2017, leaving fans with lingering disappointment.

Recently, a video surfaced on Clovers Inc.'s X account, showcasing Hideki Kamiya and his team revisiting archived Scalebound gameplay footage. Kamiya expressed nostalgic pride in the game's development, despite its unfortunate fate. He further fueled speculation by retweeting the video with the pointed message: "Come on, Phil, let's do this!", directly addressing Phil Spencer, head of Xbox. This isn't a new sentiment; Kamiya previously voiced his desire to revive Scalebound in early 2022.

While discussions surrounding a Scalebound return frequently surface, the buzz intensified in early 2023 with several sources hinting at a potential reboot. However, Microsoft remained officially silent. Phil Spencer, when questioned by Game Watch, offered only a cryptic smile and "I have nothing to add at this time."

Even with renewed interest from Microsoft, a swift Scalebound revival is unlikely. Hideki Kamiya and Clovers Inc. are currently focused on a new Okami installment. Any Scalebound development would commence only after the completion of their current project. Despite the years that have passed, the persistent hope remains that players will one day experience the game's long-awaited release.
