Proxi, The Sims Creator's New Game, Has More Details Revealed

Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently unveiled further details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This follows the release of a "not-a-trailer-trailer" last month. The game, developed by Gallium Studio, is shaping up to be a deeply personal experience.

A Personalized AI Life Sim

The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, focused on Wright's vision for Proxi. BreakthroughT1D is a leading organization dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research, using its Twitch channel to collaborate with the gaming community for fundraising.

Wright explained that Proxi is an "AI life sim built from your memories." Players input personal memories as paragraphs, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for greater accuracy. Each new memory ("mem") enhances the game's AI and adds to the player's "mind world," a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons.

This mind world expands with the addition of Proxies – representations of friends and family – as more memories are added. Memories are arranged chronologically and linked to Proxies, illustrating who was involved in each event. Remarkably, Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds like Minecraft and Roblox.

The core goal is to create "magical connections with memories, bringing them to life." Wright emphasized the game's personalized nature, stating, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player. Kind of a saying I've lived by, which is that no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He jokingly added, "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."

Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
