After engaging with Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won expressed a revitalized perspective on game development. Speaking at the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC) to Eurogamer, Choi reflected on the influence of FromSoftware's creations on his work, evident in the design of Lies of P.

Choi shared his enthusiasm for Elden Ring: Nightreign, noting, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."

This experience has opened his mind to new possibilities, including multiplayer games. Choi affirmed, "In terms of our future endeavours, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

While Choi acknowledges his admiration for FromSoftware, he emphasizes that his inspiration comes from a broad spectrum of games. In an interview with Games Radar+ during the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of different experiences and inspirations that I pick up with many different games I love, I sort of mold it into my own Lies of P experience. In the end, it's a combination of diverse inspirations that I get from many games that I love, and then I'm trying to transform that into a Lies of P experience that I'm developing for the fans of Lies of P now."

Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi disclosed that the Overture DLC could take experienced players between 15-20 hours to complete, packed with numerous bosses and additional content initially intended for the game's launch. He elaborated, "Overture is not a complete separate piece from the base game, and there's a lot of interconnectivity between the two, so developing the expansion was almost like an effort to complete the Lies of P experience, and that was challenging."

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to the final days of Krat, following a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts from the game's development phase, akin to a Director’s Cut that feels like the concluding chapter of the game.

Choi explained, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize, as we mentioned, to do the best quality, so we couldn't deliver everything at once because we wanted to make sure what we can deliver has the best quality." He highlighted the crucial role of community feedback in motivating the team to create this comprehensive expansion.

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

During an interview with IGN at the 2025 GDC, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not tie into the final cutscene of the base game. While the ending of Lies of P hinted at potential future developments, Choi confirmed in a November 2023 Director’s Letter video that a sequel is in the works, though details on Lies of P 2 remain scarce.

Choi reassured fans, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

He encouraged players to revisit the base game, as it contains subtle clues about what the DLC might offer. Choi also mentioned enjoying fan theories online, some of which have been remarkably accurate.

Lies of P: Overture is scheduled for release in Summer 2025, without a precise date yet announced. It will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Keep an eye on our updates for the latest on this exciting expansion!
