CD Projekt Red établit une nouvelle norme pour le développement de PNJ dans The Witcher 4. Suite aux retours sur Cyberpunk 2077 et The Witcher 3, le studio vise à créer un véritable monde immersif où chaque personnage non jouable se sent vivant et unique.

Le directeur du jeu, Sebastian Kalemba, a expliqué sa nouvelle approche : "Notre règle est la suivante : chaque PNJ doit donner l'impression de vivre sa propre vie avec sa propre histoire."

Cette vision est évoquée dans la première bande-annonce, mettant en vedette le village de Stromford. Les villageois adhèrent aux superstitions locales et adorent une divinité forestière. Une scène représente une fille priant dans les bois jusqu'à ce que Ciri arrive pour combattre un monstre.

Kalemba a précisé : "Nous visons un maximum de réalisme chez les PNJ – de leur apparence et expressions faciales à leur comportement. Cela améliorera considérablement l'immersion. Nous élevons la barre en matière de qualité."

Les développeurs ont l'intention d'imprégner chaque village et chaque personnage de traits et de récits distincts, reflétant les croyances et coutumes uniques des communautés isolées.
