Shirley Curry, also known as Skyrim Grandma, playing Oblivion Remastered

Popular gaming YouTuber Shirley Curry, affectionately called Skyrim Grandma by fans, has begun streaming The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered — with her chat community eagerly offering gameplay support.

A New Adventure Begins

In her video "Oblivion Remastered #1 Learning" (posted to her 1.3 million-subscriber channel), the 89-year-old content creator started her adventure in Bethesda's newly released remaster immediately after completing the tutorial section.

"Good morning grandkids. We're playing Oblivion Remastered now," Curry cheerfully greeted viewers. "Finally escaped from those gloomy prison cells, dungeons and underground tunnels that take forever to navigate. This is my first glimpse of the open world."

Learning the Ropes

Curry encounters some initial difficulties adjusting to the classic RPG's mechanics, often seeking viewer assistance with functions like switching camera perspectives. Much of her gameplay involves exploring environments and familiarizing herself with movement controls and game systems. And naturally — like most first-time players — she's having particular trouble with the infamous lockpicking minigame.

Persevering Through Challenges

In her follow-up video "Oblivion Remastered #2 Still Learning," Curry continued documenting her adjustment period while navigating goblin-infested caverns. "You'll probably hear me complain quite a bit," she warned viewers with trademark humor.

The comment section overflowed with supportive messages and gameplay advice from devoted fans. One particularly detailed response explained camera controls, lockpicking alternatives, and special in-game locations — earning Curry's grateful 'heart' reaction.

Community Support Shines

Other viewers shared more tips in the comments:

"Glad you're getting comfortable with the controls! Remember you can use the 'Wait' function to change time of day, except when enemies are nearby."

Curry personally thanked this contributor for the helpful suggestion.

Although Curry announced her retirement from Let's Plays last year after nine years of content creation, her passion for gaming ultimately drew her back to the camera.

The Elder Scrolls community has already cemented Curry's legacy — she's received recognition from fellow Skyrim fans and developer Bethesda alike. After supporters campaigned for her inclusion in TES VI, Bethesda confirmed she would appear as an NPC in the upcoming installment.

While awaiting The Elder Scrolls VI (still likely years from launch), Skyrim Grandma now has the entire remastered Cyrodiil to explore at her own pace.
