Saros: Housemarque's New Game Post-Returnal, Set for 2026

Housemarque has unveiled Saros, the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2022 roguelite shooter, Returnal. Set to launch in 2026 exclusively on PlayStation 5 and optimized for the PS5 Pro, Saros features the talented Rahul Kohli in a starring role.

The game was showcased during the latest PlayStation State of Play, embodying the signature Housemarque style. In Saros, players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a mission to uncover truths on a perilous, ever-changing planet. This planet is shrouded in an eerie eclipse and menaced by at least one formidable entity. The game's theme of "coming back stronger" resonates with the roguelike genre, while the display of fireballs hints at Housemarque's characteristic bullet-hell elements.

PlayAccording to Creative Director Gregory Louden, Saros represents the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's focus on gameplay. While it introduces a fresh single-player narrative, it builds upon the foundation laid by Returnal's third-person action mechanics.

However, Saros introduces a significant gameplay variation from Returnal. As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, Louden explains that while the world in Saros shifts following the player's death, players can also permanently enhance their weapons and suits, adding a layer of lasting progression to the experience.

Further details are anticipated later this year, with Housemarque promising an extended gameplay demonstration.
