Pokemon TCG Pocket: Paralyzed, Explained (& All Cards with ‘Paralyze’ Ability)

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 26,2025

This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its mechanics, cures, and deck-building strategies.

What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Paralyzed Effect

The Paralyzed condition immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for one turn, preventing attacks and retreats. It automatically resolves at the opponent's next Checkup phase.

Paralyzed vs. Asleep

Both Paralyzed and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyzed automatically resolves, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific counter-strategies for recovery.

Paralyzed in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical PTCG

Unlike the physical TCG, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks Trainer cards to specifically counter Paralysis. The core mechanic remains the same: a Paralyzed Pokémon is incapacitated for one turn.

Which Cards Inflict Paralysis?

Cards with Paralyze Ability

Currently, only Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno in the Genetic Apex expansion can inflict Paralysis. Each relies on a coin flip, making it a somewhat unreliable strategy.

How to Recover from Paralyzed

Recovering from Paralyzed

Four methods exist:

  1. Waiting: Paralysis automatically ends at the start of your next turn.
  2. Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon instantly cures it.
  3. Retreating: Retreating the Pokémon removes the effect (as Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions).
  4. Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers a counter (specific to Weezing or Muk).

The Best Paralyze Deck?

Paralyze Deck Example

Paralysis alone is not a strong deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep, using Pokémon like Articuno & Frosmoth, offering multiple attack lines with both conditions, is a more effective strategy. A sample decklist might include:

Card Quantity
Wigglypuff ex 2
Jigglypuff 2
Snom 2
Frosmoth 2
Articuno 2
Misty 2
Sabrina 2
X Speed 2
Professor's Research 2
Poke Ball 2

This strategy leverages both conditions for a more consistent control approach. Remember that the effectiveness relies heavily on successful coin flips.
