Lost Soul Aside: PSN Account Linking Requirement Dropped for PC Release

Lost Soul Aside, a highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG slated for a 2025 PC release, has reportedly dropped its controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's market reach, allowing Sony to sell the title in over 100 countries previously inaccessible due to PSN limitations.

Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony funds and publishes the game across PS5 and PC platforms, the initial implementation of mandatory PSN linking for PC titles last year sparked considerable player backlash.

The removal of this requirement for Lost Soul Aside's PC version was initially observed on the game's Steam page. While initially listed, the PSN linking mandate was swiftly removed from the SteamDB update history within a day of the December 2024 gameplay trailer release.

A Shift in Sony's PC Strategy?

This marks the second instance of Sony reversing its PSN linking policy for PC games, following a similar reversal for Helldivers 2. This suggests a potential softening of Sony's approach to PSN linking for its PC releases. The decision likely reflects a desire to maximize Lost Soul Aside's player base and sales potential, especially considering the underwhelming PC performance of other PlayStation titles following the PSN linking mandate (e.g., God of War Ragnarok's significantly lower Steam player count compared to its predecessor).

While the specific reasons behind this decision remain undisclosed, the move underscores a possible shift in Sony's strategy for its PC game releases, prioritizing broader accessibility over strict PSN integration.
