"Oblivion Remastered Surges on Steam, Set for Further Growth"

Author:Kristen Update:May 27,2025

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered made a significant impact upon its surprise launch on Steam on April 22, achieving a peak concurrent player count of over 180,000 on its release day. This remastered version quickly ascended to the top of Steam's global top-selling games list, outranking heavyweights like Valve's Counter-Strike 2, the popular Schedule I, and Blizzard's Overwatch 2, which had just received a major update.

On its launch day, Oblivion Remastered became the fourth most-played game on Steam, only behind Counter-Strike 2, PUBG, and Dota 2. It also claimed the title of the most-played single-player RPG on the platform, surpassing even the highly acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3. The game has garnered a 'very positive' user review rating, reflecting strong player approval.

While Steam statistics offer a glimpse into the game's success, they don't capture the full picture. As a Microsoft-owned title (Bethesda is part of ZeniMax Media, owned by Microsoft), Oblivion Remastered was simultaneously released on Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate subscribers. Given the popularity of the subscription service, it's likely that the game attracted a substantial number of players there as well. Additionally, the game's availability on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S suggests that the total concurrent player count across all platforms on launch day far exceeds the figures reported on Steam alone.

Bethesda has yet to release official total player or sales numbers, but the game's performance is expected to grow further as it enters its first weekend on the market.

Developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered boasts an array of visual and feature enhancements. It supports 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, alongside significant improvements to leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. The remaster also includes new dialogue, a refined third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology. While some fans consider it more of a remake, Bethesda officially categorizes it as a remaster.

Originally released in 2006 as a sequel to the beloved Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was launched on PC and Xbox 360, with a PlayStation 3 version following in 2007. Set in the fictional province of Cyrodiil, the game follows the player's journey to thwart a fanatical cult's efforts to open portals to the demonic realm of Oblivion.
