Oblivion Remake Details Leak Online

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 16,2025

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake, rumored to be in development with a 2025 release date, has sparked excitement with a leaked list of details. According to Mp1st, these details surfaced due to an accidental release by a former employee at Virtuos, a video game support studio. Microsoft, when approached by IGN for comment, remained silent on the matter.

Virtuos is reportedly using Unreal Engine 5 for the remake, suggesting a comprehensive overhaul rather than a simple remaster. The leaked information from Mp1st highlights significant gameplay changes, including modifications to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reactions, and the user interface (HUD). The changes to Blocking were inspired by action games and Soulslikes, aiming to address the original system's perceived shortcomings of being "boring" and "frustrating." Sneak icons are now more visible, damage calculations have been updated, and the effects of depleting Stamina are harder to trigger. The HUD has been streamlined for better clarity, while hit reactions have been introduced to enhance feedback. Archery mechanics have been modernized for both first and third-person perspectives.

Rumors of an Oblivion remaster first surfaced in 2023 during the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) versus Microsoft trial regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Documents from July 2020, prepared ahead of Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media in March 2021, listed several unannounced Bethesda projects, including an "Oblivion Remaster" planned for the 2022 financial year. Other projects listed included an Indiana Jones game, Doom Year Zero with DLC, Project Kestrel, Project Platinum, The Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 3 Remaster, a Ghostwire: Tokyo sequel, Dishonored 3, and additional DLC for Doom Year Zero. However, many of these projects have faced delays or cancellations, with Doom Year Zero rebranded as Doom: The Dark Ages, set to launch this year, and the Indiana Jones game, titled Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, delayed until December 2024.

Interestingly, the document referred to the project as a remaster, but the scope may have expanded into a full remake. The industry is eagerly awaiting an official announcement from Bethesda to clarify the project's nature.

As for the platforms, Microsoft's recent shift towards multiplatform releases suggests that the Oblivion remake could be available on more than just PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, possibly including the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Leaker NateTheHate has suggested a June release for the remake, which could align with the launch window of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Next week, Microsoft will hold an Xbox Developer Direct where id Software will provide further details on Doom: The Dark Ages. Additionally, Microsoft teased the reveal of a new game from a mystery developer, speculated by Windows Central's Jez Corden to be a new entry in a legendary Japanese IP, though it appears unlikely to be the Oblivion remake.
