Honor of Kings Goes Global with Ban & Pick System

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 24,2025

Honor of Kings Unveils Major Esports Plans for 2025

Following its global launch, Honor of Kings is making significant strides in 2025. Key announcements include the inaugural Philippines Invitational (February 21st - March 1st) and, most notably, the global adoption of a ban & pick format for Season Three and all future tournaments.

This global ban & pick system introduces a strategic layer to the game. Once a hero is selected by a team in a match, that hero becomes unavailable to that team for the remainder of the tournament. This restriction applies only to the team that used the hero, not their opponents.

The impact is significant, especially considering many players specialize in a limited roster of characters. This new system emphasizes team synergy and strategic decision-making. Players must balance using familiar heroes with the need for team composition and counter-strategies. This added complexity promises to elevate the competitive scene and attract new viewers.

A Strategic Shift

While not the originator of the ban & pick system (games like League of Legends and Rainbow Six Siege utilize similar mechanics), Honor of Kings' implementation adds a unique twist by placing the selection directly in the hands of individual players. This fosters greater team collaboration and strategic depth. The decision of whether to prioritize a team-beneficial character or a player's personal main will become a crucial element of competitive play. The introduction of this format is expected to significantly enhance the excitement and strategic complexity of Honor of Kings esports.
