Excitement is building among fans of the iconic RPG series as reports suggest that Bethesda is poised to announce a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion in the coming weeks, with a release potentially following shortly thereafter. The well-known leaker NatetheHate, who previously nailed the announcement date for the Nintendo Switch 2, has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to claim that the much-anticipated Oblivion remake will be revealed either this month or the next. This information has been corroborated by VGC, lending additional credibility to the rumor.

While the exact release window remains slightly unclear, NatetheHate suggests a launch before June, whereas VGC reports a possible release as early as April. Fans are eagerly awaiting official confirmation from Bethesda on the precise details.

In January, Mp1st reported on seemingly leaked details about the Oblivion remake, attributed to a former employee at video game support studio Virtuos. These leaks indicated that the remake is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, hinting at a comprehensive overhaul rather than a simple remaster. According to Mp1st, the game will feature significant gameplay changes, including modifications to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reactions, and the user interface (HUD). Notably, the changes to Blocking were inspired by action games and Soulslikes, aiming to enhance engagement by addressing the original system's "boring" and "frustrating" aspects. Sneak icons are now reportedly more visible, and damage calculations have been updated. The conditions for triggering a knockdown from depleted Stamina have been made more challenging, and the HUD has been redesigned for better clarity. Additionally, hit reactions have been refined for more responsive gameplay, and Archery has been updated for both first and third-person perspectives.

Rumors of an Oblivion remaster first surfaced in 2023, following the release of documents during the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) versus Microsoft trial regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. These documents, compiled in July 2020 ahead of Microsoft's purchase of Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media in March 2021, listed several unannounced Bethesda projects slated for release in subsequent years. The list included an Oblivion Remaster scheduled for the financial year 2022, alongside other titles like an Indiana Jones game, Doom Year Zero, and The Elder Scrolls 6.
