"Elden Ring Nightreign Ditches Poisonous Swamps"

Author:Kristen Update:May 19,2025

In the upcoming cooperative action game, *Elden Ring Nightreign*, fans of From Software's signature poisonous swamps will be disappointed to learn these iconic environments won't be making an appearance. This revelation comes directly from the game's product manager, Yasuhiro Kitao, who discussed the game's design choices with journalists. Despite a similar-looking location appearing in the *Elden Ring Nightreign* trailer, Kitao clarified that it's an entirely different place. He attributed the absence of the poisonous swamps to the lack of involvement from Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of From Software, who is well-known for his fondness for swamp areas. It's Miyazaki's influence that has brought such challenging terrains into games like *Elden Ring* and the *Dark Souls* series. However, he did not participate in the development of *Elden Ring Nightreign*.

There's also a glimmer of hope for fans looking to play cooperatively. While *Elden Ring Nightreign* has been announced to feature one-player and three-player modes, the developers have been contemplating the addition of a two-player mode. Initially, a two-player mode was left out due to concerns over content balancing. However, From Software is currently reevaluating this decision, though no final commitment has been made yet.

Mark your calendars: *Elden Ring Nightreign* is slated for release on May 30, 2025, and will be available on PC as well as two generations of consoles.
