The Dungeon faction, also known as the Warlocks’ faction, has long captured the hearts of fans within the universe of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era. Our initial dive into the continent of Jadame unveiled creatures inherently linked to this faction, each possessing their unique territories. This allowed the developers to weave a faction that honors tradition while embracing innovative elements.

If one were to encapsulate the essence of the Dungeon faction throughout the series, the words "power" and "outcasts" would aptly describe it. Revisiting the realm of Enroth offers a chance to redefine these once-feared warlocks. Drawing inspiration from the rich lore of Jadame, particularly from Might and Magic VIII and the Alvaric Pact, the Dungeon faction has undergone a fascinating evolution.

Creatures once considered mere monsters now forge alliances with the red-skinned dark elves, a group historically ostracized for their pragmatic approach. This alliance has fostered growth through diplomacy, trade, and strategic pacts, marking a significant departure from the faction's earlier iterations.

Across the Heroes series, the presence of skilled warlocks and commanding leaders has been a hallmark of the Dungeon faction's cities. Each game presented a unique portrayal:

  • In Heroes I and Heroes II, the followers of Lord Alamar and King Archibald were driven by a thirst for power, rallying creatures that shared their ambitions.
  • In Heroes III, Nighon’s warlords embraced the philosophy that strength justifies dominance, ruling from subterranean tunnels while harboring ambitions of conquering Antagarich.
  • Heroes IV introduced chaotic sorcerers and thieves residing in Axeoth’s swamps, who rallied rogues to carve out territories in the nascent world.
  • In Heroes V through VII, Ashan’s dark elves aligned with the Dragon-Goddess Malassa and the underworld, crafting a narrative rich with intrigue and complexity.
