Get ready for some exciting news from the world of Deadlock! The game is set to undergo its most significant update in months, transforming its four-lane map into a streamlined three-lane structure. Dive in to discover all about Deadlock’s upcoming changes and latest updates.
Deadlock's latest major update is set to transform its four lanes into three, simplifying the map structure and introducing a host of other game enhancements. On February 26, 2025, Valve detailed this full map rework and other mechanics adjustments on Steam.
The redesign will streamline the four lanes into three, accompanied by "a large range of map-wide changes including visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, and more." Deadlock's unique approach to the MOBA genre, being third-person, is already distinctive, but the addition of a fourth lane to a typical three-lane map can indeed complicate gameplay.
Moreover, changes to farming mechanics have been introduced. Players will no longer need to last-hit enemies to summon Soul Orbs, making early laning phases easier to manage. The patch notes also highlight improvements in the game’s netcode and client performance, ensuring a smoother gaming experience.
This update could be the spark Deadlock needs to reignite its community's interest. In September 2024, Deadlock reached an all-time peak of 171,490 active players. However, the game experienced a significant 90% decrease in player count over the following months, with only around 17,000 players active this past month.
Valve Developer Yoshi announced in Deadlock’s Discord server in January 2025 that the team would adjust their update schedule. The previous two-week cycle made it challenging to implement desired changes. Yoshi explained, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."
Deadlock is currently in active development and playtesting, accessible only via friend invite. There are no official announcements yet regarding a specific release date for the game. For more detailed information about Deadlock, be sure to visit our dedicated Deadlock page.
