Author:Kristen Update:May 15,2025

Eleven years after its initial release, Far Cry 4 now boasts a smoother gameplay experience on the PlayStation 5, running at 60 frames per second (fps). This enhancement was first noticed by user gael_74 and shared on the Far Cry 4 subreddit, with the game's update history confirming that Version 1.08 brought "support for 60 FPS on PS5 console."

If you haven't yet explored the vibrant world of Far Cry 4, now is the perfect opportunity. The game immerses players in a breathtaking open-world set against the backdrop of the Himalayas, where the environment isn't just visually stunning but also a dynamic playground for combat, hunting, and exploration. The game features one of the series' most memorable antagonists, Pagan Min. Despite some criticism regarding character development, IGN's Far Cry 4 review praised the game's engaging campaign, cooperative, and competitive multiplayer modes, awarding it a "great" 8.5/10 score.

Far Cry 4 joins the ranks of other PS4-era Ubisoft games, such as Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Assassin's Creed Origins, that have received retrospective performance upgrades. This update has sparked excitement among fans on the subreddit, with many expressing hopes that other beloved titles in the series, like Far Cry Primal and Far Cry 3, will also receive similar enhancements.

The timing of the update wasn't ideal for everyone, however, as one player lamented having just achieved the platinum trophy for the game days before the update: "You are kidding right. I just platinumed the game, like, three days ago."

In related news, Ubisoft recently established a new subsidiary focused on its major franchises including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, backed by a €1.16 billion (approximately $1.25 billion) investment from Tencent. This move follows the announcement that Assassin's Creed Shadows surpassed 3 million players, a critical success amidst a challenging period for Ubisoft marked by high-profile flops, layoffs, studio closures, and game cancellations. The success of Shadows is crucial as Ubisoft's stock price has reached an all-time low.

Additionally, Ubisoft has recently and quietly introduced Steam Achievements to the 12-year-old game Splinter Cell: Blacklist, further showing their commitment to updating and enhancing their older titles.
