Xbox Series Games: A Tier Ranking

Author:Kristen Update:May 26,2025

After a stellar Xbox Developer Direct to kick off 2025, Microsoft's first-party studios are setting the stage for an exciting year. With a rich portfolio bolstered by acquisitions like Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, Xbox fans have a lot to look forward to. Whether you're reminiscing about the glory days of the Xbox 360 or eagerly anticipating Xbox exclusives coming to other platforms like PlayStation, there's no shortage of legendary game series to get excited about.

Here's a personal tier list of Xbox game series, focusing on those that have left a lasting impact and continue to be relevant today. This list includes series from Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard, with a requirement of more than one entry in the series to qualify. Let's dive into my rankings, based on enjoyment and historical significance:

Simon Cardy's Xbox Games Series Tier List

S Tier:

  • Doom: The recent entries in the Doom series rank among my favorite first-person shooters. The upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages looks promising, suggesting id Software is maintaining its top form.
  • Forza Horizon: For me, these games stand out as some of the best racing games ever, perhaps only rivaled by classics like Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge.

A Tier:

  • Halo: While Halo 2 and Halo 3 are among the finest campaign shooters ever made, recent inconsistencies keep it from reaching the S tier.
  • Fallout: I'm more of a Fallout fan than an Elder Scrolls one. There's just something about owning a set of power armor that beats riding a dragon.

B Tier:

  • Gears of War: A solid series with a strong narrative and gameplay, but it doesn't quite reach the heights of my top picks.
  • Elder Scrolls: A fantastic series, but my preference leans more towards the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout.

C Tier:

  • Fable: Enjoyable, but not as consistently excellent as some other series.
  • Ori: Beautiful and engaging, but the series hasn't had the same impact on me as others.

D Tier:

  • Fuzion Frenzy: Fun party games, but they don't hold up as well over time compared to other Xbox series.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you believe Gears of War deserves the top spot, or you're a staunch defender of Fuzion Frenzy? Feel free to create your own tier list and compare it with the IGN community.
