Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O, a remastered version of the beloved arcade fighter, is arriving on Steam this winter! Discover more about this highly anticipated release.
SEGA is bringing its acclaimed Virtua Fighter franchise to Steam for the very first time with Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. This latest remaster marks the fifth major iteration of the eighteen-year-old Virtua Fighter 5. While a precise release date remains unannounced, SEGA promises a winter launch.
Despite numerous previous versions, SEGA positions Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O as the definitive remaster of this 3D fighting classic. Key improvements include rollback netcode for smooth online play, stunning 4K graphics with updated high-resolution textures, and a boosted 60fps framerate for incredibly fluid gameplay.
Classic modes like Rank Match, Arcade, Training, and Versus return, joined by exciting new additions. Players can now organize custom online tournaments and leagues accommodating up to 16 participants, and a Spectator Mode lets players observe matches and learn new techniques.
The YouTube trailer has generated overwhelmingly positive feedback, even for a fifth iteration. Many fans enthusiastically express their intent to purchase another version, while others celebrate the game's arrival on PC. However, calls for Virtua Fighter 6 persist, with one humorous comment suggesting its release will coincide with a post-apocalyptic, internet-less future.
Earlier this month, an interview with VGC fueled speculation that SEGA was developing Virtua Fighter 6. SEGA's global head of transmedia, Justin Scarpone, mentioned several legacy titles in development, including another Virtua Fighter.
However, the November 22nd Steam listing of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O, showcasing enhanced visuals, new modes, and rollback netcode, clarified the situation.
Virtua Fighter 5 initially launched on SEGA Lindbergh arcades in July 2006, later ported to PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007. The game's storyline, centered around the Fifth World Fighting Tournament, features 17 fighters in the original release, expanded to 19 in later versions, including R.E.V.O.
Following its initial release, Virtua Fighter 5 received various updates and remasters, enhancing the original and broadening its reach. These include:
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R (2008) ⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (2010) ⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown (2021) ⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O (2024)
With its modernized visuals and features, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O remains exciting news for Virtua Fighter fans.
