Controversial Streamer Dr Disrespect Addresses Twitch Ban and Midnight Society Departure

Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV, better known as Dr Disrespect, has publicly acknowledged inappropriate online interactions with a minor, clarifying the circumstances surrounding his 2020 Twitch ban. This admission comes after former Twitch employee Cody Conners alleged Dr Disrespect was banned for "sexting a minor."

While initially denying wrongdoing, Dr Disrespect subsequently released a statement admitting to engaging in inappropriate conversations with a minor via Twitch Whispers (a now-defunct private messaging feature) in 2017, three years prior to his ban. He emphasized that these interactions lacked malicious intent and that no in-person meeting ever occurred, directly countering claims suggesting he attempted to meet the minor at TwitchCon. His statement garnered millions of views within hours of its release.

Dr Disrespect's Departure from Midnight Society

The statement also addressed Dr Disrespect's departure from Midnight Society, the game development studio he co-founded. While Midnight Society cited a need to uphold its principles and standards in its announcement, Dr Disrespect characterized the decision as a mutual one, expressing regret and offering apologies to his team, community, and family.

Despite the controversy, Dr Disrespect confirmed plans to return to streaming after an extended break, stating that he feels relieved to have addressed these issues publicly.
