Trump and Biden Removed from Marvel Rivals Mods, Nexus Mods Owner Faces Threats

Marvel Rivals has found itself at the center of a heated controversy following the removal of over 500 mods from the Nexus Mods website in a single month. The situation escalated when Nexus Mods took down modifications that humorously replaced Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump. This action sparked a significant backlash from the gaming community.

The owner of Nexus Mods, known by the pseudonym TheDarkOne, addressed the issue in a private Reddit discussion. He clarified that the decision to remove both the Biden and Trump mods simultaneously was made to prevent any accusations of political bias. "We removed the Biden mod on the same day as the Trump mod to avoid bias. But for some reason, YouTube bloggers are silent about it," TheDarkOne stated, highlighting the perceived uneven coverage of the issue by online content creators.

However, the controversy did not subside with the removal of the mods. TheDarkOne revealed that he has since been subjected to death threats and derogatory insults. "Today we write death threats, call us pedophiles and all sorts of insults just because someone decided to stir up this topic," he added, expressing frustration over the extreme reactions from some users.

This incident is not the first time Nexus Mods has faced backlash over mod removals. In 2022, the platform removed a mod for Spider-Man Remastered that replaced rainbow flags with American flags, citing their commitment to inclusivity and diversity. "We're not going to waste our time on people who think this is cause for uproar," TheDarkOne concluded, emphasizing the platform's stance on maintaining a diverse and inclusive environment.
