How Starbrand Works in Marvel Snap

Starbrand is a formidable 3-cost, 10-power card with an Ongoing ability that reads: "Ongoing: Your opponent has +3 Power at each other location." Unlike Mister Fantastic, Starbrand's effect spans all locations except the one he's in, making him a unique addition to your deck. To counteract his drawback, most decks will utilize cards like Zero, Sauron, and Enchantress.

While Starbrand faces a hard counter from Shang-Chi, he synergizes well with Surtur. However, fitting him into decks at the 3-cost slot can be tricky, often competing with cards like Surtur or Sauron.

Best Day One Starbrand Decks in Marvel Snap

Starbrand fits well into two established deck types: Shuri Sauron and Surtur. Although Shuri Sauron has seen less play recently, Starbrand might just breathe new life into this classic strategy. Here’s a look at both:

Shuri Sauron Deck

  • Zabu
  • Zero
  • Armor
  • Lizard
  • Sauron
  • Starbrand
  • Shuri
  • Ares
  • Enchantress
  • Typhoid Mary
  • Red Skull
  • Taskmaster

This budget-friendly deck includes only Ares as a Series 5 card, which you can replace with Vision if needed. The deck leverages Zabu’s ability for optimal play. The gameplay is straightforward: neutralize the negative effects of your Ongoing cards with Zero, Sauron, and Enchantress, then use Shuri to boost another lane, possibly with Red Skull, and secure a final location with Taskmaster's copied power.

Traditionally, this deck included Ebony Maw instead of Zabu, but with Taskmaster's cost increase to 6, Zabu allows for powerful plays with Shuri and Starbrand on the final turns. Starbrand's drawback is less impactful when going tall with Shuri, but Enchantress can cancel it out while potentially disrupting an opponent’s Ongoing card.

Surtur Deck

  • Zabu
  • Zero
  • Armor
  • Sam Wilson
  • Captain America
  • Cosmo
  • Surtur
  • Starbrand
  • Ares
  • Attuma
  • Crossbones
  • Cull Obsidian
  • Skaar

This deck is pricier, featuring four Series 5 cards. The synergy between Sam Wilson and Cull Obsidian, combined with Surtur and Ares, makes it highly effective. With Starbrand, you can reduce Skaar's cost to 1 by playing Starbrand and two of Ares, Attuma, or Crossbones on turns 4 and 5. Zero helps mitigate the downsides of Starbrand and Attuma, but even without perfect timing, Zero remains a valuable final turn option.

The challenge with this deck lies in timing Starbrand's play. Ideally, you'd play Surtur first and save Starbrand for the final turn with Zero and Skaar, but flexibility is key. It may take some trial and error to master this deck.

Should You Use Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector’s Tokens on Starbrand?

Starbrand is a "wait and see" card. With recent meta shifts due to cards like Agamotto and Eson, and nerfs to Aero and Skaar, it's unclear whether Shuri Sauron or Surtur decks will thrive. If you have the resources, give it a few days to see how Starbrand fits into the evolving meta before committing.

And those are the best Starbrand decks in Marvel Snap.
