Top Khonshu Decks for Marvel Snap Revealed

Discard players, rejoice! Khonshu, the God of the Moon, has made his grand entrance into *Marvel Snap*, bringing with him a fascinating new tool for discard-centric decks. As one of the most intricate cards Second Dinner has introduced, let's delve into how Khonshu functions and explore the best strategies to harness his power.

How Khonshu Works in *Marvel Snap*

Khonshu is a 6-cost, 5-power card with an ability that reads: "When discarded, returns in its next phase. On Reveal: Resurrect a card you discarded to another location with its Power set to 5."

  • Khonshu's 'next phase' transforms him into a 6-cost, 8-power card with the ability: "When discarded, returns in its final phase. On Reveal: Resurrect a card you discarded to another location with its Power set to 8."
  • Khonshu's 'final phase' upgrades him to a 6-cost, 12-power card with the ability: "On Reveal: Resurrect a card you discarded to another location with its Power set to 12."

Each time Khonshu is discarded, he returns to your hand and upgrades, enhancing his On Reveal effect significantly. This mechanic is reminiscent of Apocalypse, but with a twist. The strategy typically involves discarding Khonshu once or twice before playing him on the final turn, resurrecting a card that benefits from a power boost, like Iron Man or Gorr the God Butcher. Despite his limitation of not reviving a specific card, deploying a 12-power final phase Khonshu on turn 6 to revive a 1-cost, 12-power Meek can often secure victory.

Best Day One Khonshu Decks in *Marvel Snap*

Finding the optimal deck for Khonshu will require extensive experimentation, as he may not fit seamlessly into traditional discard decks. I envision him fitting best into a Darkhawk-style Stature list, along with other alternative discard-type decks. Let's explore the former:

  • Deck List: Korg, Blade, Fenris Wolf, Juggernaut, Moon Knight, Lady Sif, Rock Slide, Silver Samurai, Darkhawk, Black Bolt, Stature, Khonshu [ttpp]

The only Series 5 card in this list is Fenris Wolf, which is crucial as resurrecting an opponent's discarded card via Moon Knight, Silver Samurai, or Black Bolt often serves as a win condition.

The strategy with this deck is straightforward: fill your opponent's deck with rocks to amplify Darkhawk's power and aim to discard Khonshu as frequently as possible. Besides Fenris Wolf, Rock Slide, and Silver Samurai, Moon Knight will consistently target Khonshu, and Blade will hit him again once he returns to your hand. The key is timing your discards correctly—ensuring Moon Knight targets Khonshu instead of Rock Slide, for example.

Once you've set up, play Stature early to pave the way for Darkhawk on turn 5 and Khonshu on turn 6, reviving a card with 8 to 12 power. Since all these cards have less than 8 power, Khonshu directly boosts their power.

While Khonshu may not replace Apocalypse in traditional discard decks, there's ample room for experimentation. His 6-cost nature makes it challenging to pair him with Apocalypse without energy ramp, such as from Corvus Glaive:

  • Deck List: Miek, Scorn, Blade, Morbius, Swarm, Moon Knight, Corvus Glaive, Lady Sif, Dracula, MODOK, Khonshu, Apocalypse [ttpp]

Scorn, the only Series 5 card here, can be swapped with other discard activators like Colleen Wing or X-23 for additional energy ramp.

This deck leans towards traditional discard but hinges on playing Corvus Glaive on turn 3 to enable dropping Khonshu alongside other discard activators, enhancing Apocalypse and flooding the board. Whether this setup will outperform traditional discard lists without Khonshu is yet to be determined, but achieving Khonshu's final phase should be straightforward with Moon Knight, Blade, and Lady Sif, while maintaining Apocalypse's strength for Dracula to absorb.

Is Khonshu Worth Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector’s Tokens?

Regardless of your affinity for discard decks, Khonshu stands out as both a powerful and intriguing card. He's poised to become a staple in hybrid discard decks and may even find a spot in the meta. If you have the resources, investing in Khonshu is a worthwhile decision.
