Suikoden STAR LEAP Is The Franchise’s First Mobile RPG

The much-anticipated Suikoden STAR LEAP is set to be the first mobile RPG in the iconic Suikoden franchise. In an insightful interview with Famitsu on March 4, 2025, the developers behind Star Leap shared their vision and approach to this exciting new project.

Star Leap's Producer, Shinya Fujimatsu, elucidated the decision to go mobile: "Our goal was to make Suikoden accessible to as many people as possible, which led us to choose the mobile platform. Yet, we wanted to ensure that the game retains the true essence of Suikoden, so we're committed to delivering a high-quality, numbered installment."

The team's ambition is clear: to merge the high-quality visuals, sound, and storytelling typical of console games with the convenience and reach of mobile gaming.

Expressing Suikoden in STAR LEAP

Fujimatsu emphasized the essence of Suikoden, noting, "The series is unique for its portrayal of war intertwined with themes of friendship. In Suikoden STAR LEAP, we aim to continue this tradition by telling the story of the new 108 stars."

Director Yoshiki Meng Shan added depth to this by highlighting the series' distinctive elements: "Suikoden balances an upbeat atmosphere with serious scenes, focusing on the bonds between friends. Additionally, the fast-paced battles featuring numerous characters collaborating in combat are hallmarks of the series."

Both a Sequel and a Prequel to the Series

Suikoden STAR LEAP will serve as both a sequel and a prequel, weaving through different eras of the Suikoden universe. This new installment will officially be part of the series' canon, with the story commencing two years before the events of Suikoden 1 and extending into other timelines, thus connecting to Suikoden 1 through 5.

Fujimatsu encouraged both new and returning fans to anticipate the game's high quality: "We've designed Star Leap to be user-friendly for mobile platforms and accessible for newcomers to the series, hoping it will serve as an excellent entry point into the world of Suikoden Genso."
