After more than a decade of absence, the beloved Suikoden series is poised for a comeback. The upcoming HD remaster of the first two games aims to reignite fan passion and introduce a new generation to this classic JRPG franchise.

The Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster promises a revitalized experience for longtime fans and a captivating introduction for newcomers. In a recent interview with Famitsu, Director Tatsuya Ogushi and Lead Planner Takahiro Sakiyama expressed their hopes that the remaster will not only attract new players but also serve as a springboard for future Suikoden titles. Ogushi, a devoted fan himself, paid tribute to the late series creator, Yoshitaka Murayama, stating, "I’m sure Murayama would have wanted to be involved as well." Sakiyama, who directed Suikoden V, shared his excitement, hoping the remaster will propel the "Genso Suikoden" IP to new heights.

A Remaster Fit for Modern Platforms

Konami has promised stunning HD backgrounds, breathing new life into the game's iconic locations. While the original pixel art sprites retain their charm, they've been meticulously polished. Added features include a gallery showcasing music and cutscenes, and an event viewer allowing players to revisit key moments.

This remaster also addresses past shortcomings. The infamous, shortened Luca Blight cutscene from the PSP version of Suikoden 2 has been restored to its original length. Furthermore, some dialogue has been updated to reflect modern sensibilities, such as removing a smoking scene to align with Japanese smoking regulations.

Launching March 6, 2025, on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster promises a compelling journey for both veterans and newcomers alike.
