Stardew Valley: Free DLC & Future Updates Committed

Stardew Valley's Creator Guarantees Forever-Free DLC and Updates

Stardew Valley developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has pledged to never charge for future updates or downloadable content (DLC). This commitment follows a recent Twitter (now X) exchange with fans.

Barone provided an update on the progress of various ports and the next PC update, acknowledging the extended development time. He assured fans he's working diligently, particularly on the mobile port, and will share concrete news, including release dates, when available.

In response to a fan's comment suggesting that free additions would alleviate any concerns about delays, Barone emphatically stated, "I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live." This strong affirmation solidifies the promise of continued free content for Stardew Valley.

This dedication to free updates underscores Barone's commitment to his player base. Stardew Valley, a beloved farming RPG released in 2016, has consistently received substantial updates, including the recent 1.6.9 update featuring new festivals, pets, home upgrades, outfits, late-game content, and quality-of-life improvements.

Barone's commitment may extend to his upcoming game, Haunted Chocolatier, although details on that project remain scarce. His unwavering dedication to providing free content for Stardew Valley, even after seven years, demonstrates a remarkable level of respect and appreciation for his community. He even jokingly challenged fans to hold him accountable, stating, "Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath." This commitment ensures players can continue enjoying expanded gameplay in Stardew Valley without any additional cost.
