"Stardew Valley: Cultivating Honey Guide"

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 01,2025

In *Stardew Valley*, players strive to thrive off the land, not just by farming crops and raising animals but also by crafting artisan products. One often overlooked gem is HoneyHoney. Cultivating honey in Stardew Valley is not only easy but can also become extremely profitable. By setting up a few Bee Houses, players can start their own honey empire, taking advantage of the game's latest updates and additions as of January 9, 2025.

Building A Bee House

Bee House

Honey production in Stardew Valley relies on bees, housed in Bee HouseBee Houses. Unlocking the crafting recipe for a Bee House requires reaching Farming Level 3. To craft one, players need the following materials:

  • 40 WoodWood
  • 8 CoalCoal
  • 1 Iron BarIron Bar
  • 1 Maple SyrupMaple Syrup

Alternatively, players can obtain a Bee House by completing the Fall Crops Bundle at the Community Center or as a potential prize from the mayor's Prize Counter. Once crafted, Bee Houses can be placed outdoors, whether on the farm, in the forest, or at the quarry. They produce honey every 3-4 days in all seasons except Winter. On Ginger Island, production occurs year-round. To move a Bee House, players can strike it with an axe or pickaxe, causing any ready honey to drop, retaining its type if influenced by nearby flowers.

Note that placing Bee Houses in the Greenhouse will not yield honey.

Flowers & Honey Types

Flowers and Honey

The type of honey produced by a Bee House depends on the flowers within a five-tile radius. Without flowers, it produces Wild HoneyWild Honey, valued at 100g (140g with the Artisan profession). However, planting specific flowers nearby can enhance the honey's type and value, including those in Garden PotGarden Pots. As an Artisan Good, honey benefits from the Artisan profession, increasing its value by 40% at Farming Level 10. Here are the various honey types and their prices:

Summer SpangleSummer Spangle280g392g

To obtain specific flower honey, avoid harvesting the flowers before collecting the honey. If the flower is harvested, the honey reverts to Wild Honey. Conversely, players can wait for nearby flowers to bloom to influence the honey type. Flowers grown from Wild Seeds, like Sweet Peas or Daffodils, do not affect honey type, resulting in Wild Honey production.

What Honey Is Used For

Mead

Mead

Honey can be transformed into MeadMead by using a KegKeg. At base quality, Mead sells for 200g and can be further aged in a CaskCask to increase its quality and value:

  • Normal: 200g (280g with Artisan profession)
  • Silver: 250g (350g with Artisan profession)
  • Gold: 300g (420g with Artisan profession)
  • Iridium: 400g (560g with Artisan profession)

The type of honey used to make Mead does not affect its quality or price, making Wild Honey the most profitable choice for production.

Crafting & Bundles

While no cooking recipes require honey, it can be used with 1 HardwoodHardwood and 20 FiberFiber to craft a Warp Totem: FarmWarp Totem: Farm, available at Farming Level 8. This totem allows players to instantly teleport back to their farmhouse from anywhere. Honey is also an option for completing the Artisan Bundle in the Community Center's Pantry and may appear in various Fish Pond quests.

Gifting

Gifting Honey

Honey is a popular gift among Stardew Valley villagers, liked by all except Maru and Sebastian. Its easy availability makes Wild Honey an excellent choice for building friendships or romancing potential partners. Mead, honey's alcoholic derivative, is also well-received, particularly by Pam and Willy, though it should be avoided for Penny, Sebastian, and children.
