Should You Give the Splinter of Eothas Relic to Sargamis in Avowed?

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 28,2025

Deciding whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas in Avowed is a crucial early choice with significantly different consequences. This guide explores the various outcomes, including a bad ending, a worse one, and a surprisingly positive resolution.

What Happens When You Refuse Sargamis the Splinter?

Refusing Sargamis leads to a confrontation. He becomes an optional boss fight, summoning spirit creatures and employing swift, powerful attacks. He’s vulnerable to freezing spells. Victory rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon with health regeneration and fire damage enhancements.

What Happens When You Give Sargamis the Splinter?

Agreeing to give the splinter presents two main paths (and a third if you change your mind, triggering a fight). First, you can persuade him to place himself in the statue, resulting in his death and obtaining the Last Light of Day mace. Second, you can offer yourself to the statue, leading to further branching choices. Standing in the designated circle results in your death and the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Leaving the circle before activation enrages Sargamis, initiating combat.

The optimal approach involves convincing Sargamis his plan is futile. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. Backgrounds like Court Augur and Arcane Scholar might provide advantageous dialogue options. Place the splinter in the statue, activate it (proving its failure), and then reason with Sargamis, leading him to abandon his plan. This path yields more experience than combat or simply giving him the splinter.

This strategy involves demonstrating Eothas' absence without suggesting a live soul transfer. After Sargamis departs, you choose whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. Finally, speak with Sargamis in his quarters to complete the Dawntreader quest.
