Skibidi Toilet DMCA Notice to Garry's Mod: Legitimacy Questioned

Garry Newman, creator of Garry's Mod, reportedly received a DMCA takedown notice concerning unauthorized Skibidi Toilet content within the Garry's Mod platform. The sender's identity remains unclear, despite initial reports implicating Invisible Narratives, the studio behind the Skibidi Toilet film and TV projects. A Discord profile seemingly belonging to the Skibidi Toilet creator has since denied sending the notice, as reported by Dexerto.

The DMCA Claim

The notice demanded the removal of "unauthorized Skibidi Toilet Garry’s Mod games," asserting a lack of licensing for any Skibidi Toilet content within the Steam, Valve, or Garry's Mod ecosystems.

The Irony and Counterarguments

The situation is ironic, considering the Skibidi Toilet series itself utilizes assets from Garry's Mod. The YouTube channel DaFuq!?Boom!, run by Alexey Gerasimov, is credited with porting these assets into Source Filmmaker to create the viral Skibidi Toilet videos. Invisible Narratives' claim that characters like "Titan Cameraman, Titan Speakerman, Titan TV Man, and Skibidi Toilet are all registered copyrights" is contested given their origin.

Garry Newman shared the DMCA notice on the s&box Discord server, highlighting the absurdity of the situation. He also noted Invisible Narratives' assertion that DaFuq!?Boom! is the source of the copyrighted characters.

Skibidi Toilet DMCA Notice to Garry's Mod: Legitimacy Questioned

While Garry's Mod uses assets from Valve's Half-Life 2, Valve has authorized its release as a standalone game. This presents a stronger legal position for Valve compared to Invisible Narratives regarding the use of their respective assets.

Skibidi Toilet DMCA Notice to Garry's Mod: Legitimacy Questioned

DaFuq!?Boom! subsequently denied involvement in sending the DMCA notice via the s&box Discord, expressing confusion and a desire to contact Garry Newman directly.

The DMCA notice was allegedly sent "on behalf of copyright holder: Invisible Narratives, LLC," citing copyright ownership of the characters in question, registered in 2023 under "Titan Cameraman and 3 Other Unpublished Works."

Previous Copyright Disputes

This isn't DaFuq!?Boom!'s first copyright controversy. Last September, they issued multiple copyright strikes against GameToons, a similar YouTube channel, eventually reaching a settlement under undisclosed terms.

The legitimacy of the DMCA notice remains uncertain, pending further investigation. The conflicting claims and the origin of the Skibidi Toilet series itself cast significant doubt on the validity of Invisible Narratives' copyright assertion.
