In a stunning move, RuneScape: Dragonwilds debuted its early access during an April 16 livestream. Developer Jagex surprised fans by making the Steam version playable barely three weeks after revealing the first trailer.

The swift release shocked the community, especially considering Steam wishlisting only began April 1 followed by the first gameplay teaser on April 2. Though first hinted at in 2022, Jagex didn't initiate alpha signups until late 2024 for their "RuneScape universe survival game." The official Dragonwilds title emerged March 31, 2025.

Projected Full Release Early 2026

Jagex estimates Dragonwilds will fully launch by early 2026. The team emphasized, "We're committed to polishing every element to deliver a rewarding experience worthy of repeated adventures with friends."

Executive Producer Jesse America described Dragonwilds as an innovative RuneScape evolution crafted specifically for series veterans, noting early access marks just the beginning of development.

"We'll continuously expand Early Access with fresh content while incorporating community feedback," he explained. "Our goal is creating a survival-crafting masterpiece that resonates equally with longtime fans and newcomers."

Early Access Content Roadmap

Jagex shared detailed plans for early access updates, including Fellhollow - a spectral frontier balancing between existence and oblivion.

This eerie domain, governed by soul-devouring dragon Imaru and infused with Ashenfall's chaotic energies, features RuneScape's iconic Death as your guide. Expect new narratives, equipment, musical scores, plus magic/ranged/farming skill expansions.

The roadmap also teases Lesser Dragons as foes, dragon-slaying armor sets, hardcore and creative modes. While specific dates remain unannounced, Jagex promises consistent quality-of-life improvements throughout.
