Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced Now the Worst User-Reviewed GTA on Steam

Rockstar's enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto 5, launched in March, has received a mixed reception on Steam. With only 54% positive user reviews out of nearly 20,000, it's currently the lowest-rated GTA title on the platform, significantly lower than the original GTA 5's "very positive" rating (now unlisted on Steam). This is even lower than Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition.

The free upgrade for PC players includes features previously exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA Online, such as Hao's Special Works upgrades, new vehicles, animal encounters, and GTA+ Membership access. Improved graphics and faster loading times are also touted. Existing GTA 5 PC players can upgrade and migrate their Story Mode and Online progress.

However, account migration issues are causing significant frustration. Many negative reviews highlight the inability to migrate progress, with players reporting error messages preventing access to their saved games and hundreds of hours of gameplay. The lack of effective support from Rockstar is also a major source of complaint.

Despite these problems, GTA 5 Enhanced boasts a peak concurrent player count of 187,059 on Steam. The negative reception, however, has raised concerns about the potential for similar issues with the upcoming PC release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Currently, GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. A former Rockstar developer recently offered an explanation for the delayed PC release, urging patience from PC gamers. Other recent news includes Take-Two's lawsuit against PlayerAuctions for unauthorized GTA 5 content and Rockstar's acquisition of Video Games Deluxe, now Rockstar Australia.
