Author:Kristen Update:May 02,2025

Renowned filmmaker Robert Eggers is set to enchant audiences once again, this time with a sequel to the cherished classic, Labyrinth. Following the success of his gothic horror film Nosferatu, Eggers will take the helm of this new project, bringing his unique vision to Jim Henson's 1986 dark fantasy masterpiece originally starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. Variety reports that Eggers will co-write the screenplay with his frequent collaborator Sjón, known for their work together on The Northman. Previously, a sequel was in development with Scott Derrickson of Sinister fame, but after a lull in updates since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to move forward with Eggers' fresh take on the beloved tale.

The original Labyrinth, released in 1986, featured David Bowie as the enigmatic Goblin King Jareth, who abducts Jennifer Connelly's baby brother. The film follows her journey through a mesmerizing dark fantasy world, aided by a colorful ensemble of Jim Henson's iconic puppets, as she attempts to rescue her sibling.

In addition to the Labyrinth sequel, Eggers is also gearing up to direct a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. This period piece is set in 13th century England and will feature dialogue in Old English, promising a raw and immersive experience as someone inevitably transforms into a fearsome wolf creature.

Nosferatu, Eggers' latest offering which hit theaters last Christmas, is a reimagining of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent horror classic. Set in 19th century Germany, the film follows a young real estate agent dispatched to Transylvania to broker a castle sale, only to unleash a cascade of vampiric terror upon himself and his wife Ellen. The film has garnered critical acclaim, receiving four Oscar nominations in the categories of Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling.
