Red Dead Redemption 2 Set for Nintendo Switch 2 Release by 2025 with Next-Gen Enhancements

Author:Kristen Update:Sep 17,2025

A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated for release by late 2025, alongside a next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.

According to GameReactor, sources "close to Rockstar" confirm a Switch 2 port of Rockstar's Wild West epic is in development, paired with a "next-gen upgrade patch" to enhance the game on current-gen consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S).

Details remain sparse, but GameReactor's sources suggest the port and upgrade patch could launch as early as late this year.

Similar reports from Nintenduo indicate the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected within Take-Two's current fiscal year, ending March 31, 2026. It’s unclear if the release will be digital-only or include a physical edition.

We hailed Red Dead Redemption 2 as a "masterpiece" in 2018, giving it a 10/10. IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review described it as: "A meticulously crafted open-world tribute to the outlaw era."

The prospect of Red Dead Redemption 2 on Switch 2 isn’t entirely unexpected. In a recent Q&A with investors after Take-Two's latest financial results, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "strong confidence" in Nintendo's new platform, noting improved support for third-party publishers compared to previous Nintendo systems.

"We're rolling out four titles for Nintendo Switch 2, a larger lineup than we’ve ever provided for a new Nintendo platform," Zelnick said. "Historically, third-party publishing on Nintendo has been tough, but Nintendo has been proactive in addressing this. We’re stepping up with optimism for the platform. We evaluate each platform individually, aiming to reach consumers where they are, though not every title will appear on every platform. There’s also significant potential for catalog titles."

Take-Two is confirmed to release Civilization 7 (June 5, launch day), NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (specific titles and dates TBD), and Borderlands 4 (September 12) on Switch 2. These align with Take-Two’s existing Switch franchises. Zelnick’s comments suggest potential for additional releases from Take-Two’s catalog, though GTA 6 is unlikely, while GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 could be possibilities.
