A Glimpse into Gameplay and Boss Battles

The recently released Ratatan gameplay trailer offers a thrilling preview of the game's mechanics, highlighting an intense battle against a giant boss crab. Unveiled during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, the trailer, courtesy of Ratatan Works, showcases the game's unique blend of rhythm-based roguelike action and side-scrolling combat. Prepare for online co-op gameplay with up to four players, commanding a massive army of up to 100 characters in epic melee battles.

Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani, with the original Patapon composer Kemmei Adachi returning, Ratatan's Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, has successfully surpassed its console launch stretch goal, securing its release on multiple platforms.

Closed Beta Commences February 27, 2025

According to the Kickstarter page, the Ratatan closed beta test begins February 27, 2025. Ratatan Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared insights into the game's progress and upcoming milestones, revealing over 100,000 Steam wishlists and positive reception for the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. While the game won't be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is prioritizing the closed beta, aiming for a refined demo for the June Steam Next Fest.

Sakajiri detailed the closed beta's scope: initially featuring Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 added during the approximately month-long test period. He also noted that "The distribution of codes, start date, and time will be announced via Discord and X as soon as they are confirmed."

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A precise release date remains unannounced.
