Rambo is set to make a thrilling return with a prequel project titled "John Rambo," helmed by director Jalmari Helander, known for his work on "Sisu" and "Big Game." According to Deadline, Millennium Media, the production company behind the 2008's "Rambo" and 2019's "Rambo: Last Blood," as well as the Expendables and Has Fallen series, is launching the film at the Cannes market. This event, coinciding with the Cannes Film Festival, is a prime venue for showcasing upcoming projects seeking funding and distribution partners.

"John Rambo" is set during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the iconic 1982 film "First Blood." While plot details remain scarce, the script has been penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the writers behind "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Filming is scheduled to begin in Thailand in October. Although Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project, he is not currently involved.

Given Helander's track record with the action-packed WWII film "Sisu," which reimagined John Wick as an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis, fans can expect "John Rambo" to deliver the intense action and gripping narrative that the franchise is known for.
