Publisher Urges Nintendo to Delist Game from Switch 2 Pending Patch

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 17,2026

Limited Run Games has requested that Nintendo remove the Gex Trilogy from the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop until there is certainty about when a patch will be available to resolve an issue with the game's backward compatibility.

In a social media statement, Limited Run mentioned that the patch's approval has been delayed, partly due to yesterday's US public holiday, so it likely won't arrive this week. As a result, the publisher has asked Nintendo to temporarily withdraw the game from sale.

Limited Run also noted that several of its games originally released for the Switch 1 have experienced backward compatibility problems on the Switch 2. Although a recent firmware update for the Switch 2 improved compatibility for most titles, the GEX Trilogy remained affected. The company developed a patch to address this issue and is currently awaiting approval for its public release.

"Since we are uncertain when the Switch 2 firmware will fix the GEX Trilogy issue, we submitted our own patch last week to correct it," Limited Run explained. "The Juneteenth holiday has pushed back approval, but we anticipate releasing the patch early next week.

"In the meantime, we’ve requested Nintendo remove the game from the Switch 2 eShop. We appreciate your patience as we work with Nintendo to resolve this."

The publisher recommended that players verify whether other Limited Run titles now work correctly on the Switch 2. A list of these games is provided below:

The Gex Trilogy includes all three platforming adventures featuring the witty, sarcastic gecko: Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. It launched on June 16 for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series, and last-generation consoles. The original Gex debuted in 1995 on the 3DO and was later ported to the PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC. Sequels followed in 1998 and 1999, but publisher Square Enix hasn't released new entries since, contributing to the excitement around this remaster.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has gotten off to a strong start, selling 3.5 million consoles, but an analysis of launch week sales indicates varied performance for third-party titles not developed by Nintendo.
