"Power Rangers Disney+ Series Aims to Reinvent Franchise for New Fans"

Exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise: Power Rangers is reportedly gearing up for a live-action series set to premiere on Disney+. According to The Wrap, the talented duo behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, are in negotiations to write, showrun, and produce this much-anticipated revival for Disney+ and 20th Century TV.

Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers brand, aims to reinvent the series for a new generation while ensuring it remains a beloved staple for existing fans. This strategic move is part of Hasbro's broader vision for the franchise, which they acquired from Saban Properties in a $522 million deal back in 2018. At the time, Hasbro's chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, expressed enthusiasm about the brand's "tremendous upside potential" across various sectors, including toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming, and entertainment.

The original '90s TV show, The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, captured the hearts of children worldwide with its teenage superheroes and their transforming mechs, which could combine into a colossal fighting machine. The franchise's enduring popularity underscores its potential for a successful revival.

This new development follows the less successful 2017 movie reboot, which attempted a darker, grittier take on the Power Rangers but failed to ignite the box office, leading to the cancellation of planned sequels. Shortly after, Saban sold the rights to Hasbro, paving the way for new projects like the upcoming Disney+ series.

Hasbro's ambitions extend beyond Power Rangers, with other notable projects in the pipeline. These include a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series, The Forgotten Realms, in development at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series, also at Netflix, and plans for a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe. These endeavors highlight Hasbro's commitment to expanding its beloved brands into new and exciting formats for audiences around the world.
